Your wedding week is finally here, and while your dress is steamed, your timeline is finalized, and your excitement is building, there’s one important detail brides often overlook: properly prepping your hair for the big day!
At Southern Tease, we know that flawless wedding day hair starts long before your stylist arrives on wedding morning. Whether you're planning soft romantic waves, a timeless updo, or glamorous Hollywood curls, your hair preparation during the week leading up to your wedding plays a huge role in how well your style holds and photographs!
Why Proper Hair Prep Matters for Your Wedding Day
Many brides assume dirty hair is best for styling, but that’s actually one of the biggest bridal beauty myths. We want your hair fresh, clean, and completely dry for wedding day. Clean hair gives us the best foundation to work with, and we use professional products to add the texture, grip, and hold needed for long-lasting bridal styles.
The right prep helps with:
-Long-lasting curls and updos
-Better volume and shape
-Less frizz and flyaways
-Improved shine and smoothness
-Healthier-looking hair in photos
-Better support for veils, extensions, pearls, and bridal hair enhancements

Your Wedding Week Hair Prep Timeline
1-2 Weeks Before: Fresh Color and Trim
If you're planning hair color, highlights, glossing, or a trim, this is the ideal time to schedule it! This gives your color time to settle naturally and allows any small adjustments if needed. It also helps avoid scalp sensitivity on wedding day.
5 Days Before: Deep Condition Carefully
Hydrated hair is beautiful, but too much moisture can actually make styling more difficult. Use a lightweight moisturizing mask if your hair feels dry, especially if you heat style regularly. Avoid overly heavy treatments that can leave buildup!
3 to 4 Days Before: Confirm Extensions and Accessories
If you're wearing bridal hair enhancements like clip-in extensions, pearls, a veil, or statement accessories, now is the time to make sure everything is ready.
Double check:
-Hair extension color match
-Veil placement preferences
-Hair combs and pins
-Pearl accents or bridal accessories
2 Days Before: Skip the Major Heat Styling
Too much heat can flatten natural texture and make styling more difficult for your wedding hair artist. Let your hair rest and stay healthy. Trust us, your bridal stylist will handle the magic!

1 Day Before: The Most Important Wash Day
This is the step that matters most. For your wedding day hairstyle, we strongly recommend washing your hair the night before!
Here’s how:
-Shampoo twice
-Use light conditioner only on mid-lengths to ends
-Rinse thoroughly
-Blow dry completely if washing the night before
-Add a lightweight mousse
-Avoid heavy oils, serums, leave-ins, or excessive dry shampoo unless instructed.
Fresh, clean hair is ideal. We will add all the grit, texture, and hold your style needs using professional styling products. Starting with clean hair helps your style last longer and gives us the best results.
Dirty hair does not mean better bridal hair, clean hair does!
